The Challenge
Napster was the original music industry disruptor. It started a revolution as the very first platform to imagine how we would all enjoy entertainment in the future. Today, Napster is the streaming app where music is more than sound, incorporating video and Web3 technologies that set it apart as a way of experiencing music from every angle.
I was engaged by Napster to lead the design of their entire content management suite of tools, both now and for the future.
The Solution
The immediate need was a minimum viable design solution to enable their transition from outdated, localised software to a fully scalable, cloud-based solution. This was coupled with time spent on envisioning the future for the platform, incorporating ideation and strategy around artist and label portals, rich analytics and reporting, and beyond.
This mixture of long-term strategic thinking and fast-paced, iterative design allowed me to produce high-fidelity design and components for the the immediate needs of the move to cloud, while also providing a clear vision for the future of this ‘system that fuels the system’.
The Result
Following their acquisition by Algorand, I provided Napster with a complete set of screen designs and a component-focussed design system for constructing interfaces that serve the many diverse needs of their internal and industry user base, both now and in the future.
