AIRSHARE

Managing national unmanned airspace

The Challenge

AirShare, an Airways subsidiary, was faced with the complex challenge of bringing legislation, technology and systems to the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) community. Drone users, ranging from hobbyists to industrial and commercial users, are subject to rules and regulations that affect their use of the skies, both in New Zealand and further afield.

I was engaged by AirShare to lead the user experience design for their software, which is used by UAV pilots, administrators, land owners and air traffic control staff all around New Zealand.

The Solution

We created user personas and worked on wireframes, prototypes and visual designs for AirShare’s web and mobile applications. I also put in place a framework for iterative usability testing.

We also provided the company with a complete digital style guide, including a proposal for a re-brand, which was designed to serve as a benchmark for all their future digital products, spanning their website, mobile and web applications.

The Result

AirShare now has a solid experience design foundation from which to develop multiple software solutions for the New Zealand UAV community.
